Promoting appropriate use of our healthcare resources

RTFB Publishing’s ‘what should I do?’ self-care programme is a highly successful and proven method of educating the public about appropriate self-care.

Over three million copies of ‘what should I do?’ Red books have been sold in the UK alone and as many as 36 different health authorities, health boards and PCT’s have purchased the books. Well over 6,000 GP surgeries and pharmacies use ‘what should I do?’ material in their patient initiatives.

Before being available in the UK, the ‘what should I do?’ self-care programme, using symptom based health advice was used successfully in Denmark and the Netherlands to help reduce the cost of healthcare budgets by reducing the strain on consultancy and treatment of minor illness whilst encouraging assessment of symptoms leading to early diagnosis of conditions requiring urgent treatmen
